Kirby Mason is a Partner in the firm and an experienced trial lawyer who advises and represents clients in Contracts, Employment and Business Disputes, and Premises Liability. She also defends medical providers in medical malpractice actions and provides advice relating to medical record production. In addition to obtaining defense verdicts at trial, Ms. Mason has been awarded summary judgment in federal and state claims involving Title VII (race/sex discrimination), ERISA, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent hiring and retention, the Americans with Disabilities Act, medical malpractice and premises liability. Her litigation practice includes mediation and arbitration of claims in addition to bench and jury trials.
She is admitted to the State Bars of Georgia, South Carolina and Montana. Ms. Mason is admitted to practice in all courts in Georgia, South Carolina and Montana, and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Georgia and the U.S. District Court of South Carolina. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Employment Law Section, the Savannah Bar Association, the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, and the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers.
Ms. Mason regularly participates on the Legislative Committee of the Employee Rights and Responsibilities Chapter of the ABA Employment Law Section and has given presentations on a variety of employment-related topics, including wage and hour issues, employee discharge and documentation, Family Medical Leave Act, Age Discrimination Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, HIPAA, ERISA, sexual discrimination and sexual harassment, race discrimination and retaliation.
Ms. Mason received two B.A. degrees from Whitman College in 1986 and graduated, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1989. Her civic and volunteer efforts include: serving as a Board member for Savannah's Rape Crisis Center and as Chairman of its Personnel Committee; serving as a Board member for the Boy Scouts of America; volunteering at her church; providing pro bono legal services for indigent persons; participating in the Truancy Intervention Project; and serving as a Board Member and on the Operations Committee of Greenbriar Children's Center.
