Chris Jordan is a litigator with a broad range of experience at the trial and appellate level. Chris maintains an active business litigation practice in state and federal courts across Georgia. He regularly advises clients on all aspects of dispute resolution in matters involving commercial real estate, land use, business dissolution, corporate governance, banking, and fiduciary issues. For much of his career, he has also defended some of the country’s largest companies in product liability, toxic tort, and other complex litigation matters throughout the Southeast.

He is a frequent speaker to groups in Georgia and across the country on issues involving business litigation, product liability, transportation law, and other complex litigation topics. Chris is also a member of the product liability team for ALFA International, a global legal networking organization.

A graduate of Duke University (2000) and Vanderbilt University School of Law (2003), he began his career at a large firm in Atlanta before moving to St. Simons Island, where he is originally from.

Chris is an active member of the Coastal Georgia community. He is a 2022 graduate of Leadership Georgia and a 2008 graduate of Leadership Glynn. He is a past member of the board of directors of the STAR Foundation, a job training and life skills program in Brunswick, Georgia. He is a current member of the board of directors for Hand in Hand, a nonprofit organization constructing “tiny homes” for the local homeless population.

Representative Engagements

  • Obtained a defense verdict on behalf of national distributor of pharmaceutical medication following a five-week jury trial in an opioid lawsuit brought by twenty-one plaintiffs seeking over $200 million in damages.
  • Defended and resolved five related mineral rights lawsuits involving over 100 adverse parties on behalf of a national solar energy developer.
  • Successfully resolved a short-term rental dispute on behalf of property owner under a local zoning ordinance.
  • Successfully moved to dismiss a nationwide class action complaint against a national distributor of pharmaceutical medications brought by military veterans with traumatic brain injuries.
  • Obtained voluntary dismissal of putative class action claims against Georgia bank alleging improper fee practices. 
  • Resolved mineral rights and land use litigation in Coastal Georgia on behalf of a national healthcare company.
  • Secured a zoning variance to provide workforce housing for large employer under local government zoning ordinance.
  • Obtained summary judgment for property owner in a quiet title action regarding land use issues as to beachfront property in Coastal Georgia.
  • Negotiated a favorable settlement on behalf of a national custodial services company in a contractual dispute with an Atlanta-area county government.
  • Obtained federal court dismissal of all claims against a Class I railroad in a case involving a pedestrian fatality at a crossing.
  • Secured dismissal on behalf of a Class I railroad of an employee’s claim alleging multiple work-induced repetitive stress injuries.
  • Negotiated a favorable settlement of an Alabama state court action brought by a deceased railroad employee’s estate alleging that the decedent’s lung cancer was caused by occupational exposure to asbestos.
  • Achieved a favorable settlement following a successful Daubert challenge in Tennessee state court to medical causation testimony of estate’s pathology and toxicology experts in suit brought by former employee’s estate alleging mesothelioma caused by occupational exposure to asbestos.
  • Negotiated a favorable settlement during trial in Baltimore, Maryland, of a lawsuit brought by a living railroad employee alleging mesothelioma caused by steam-era asbestos exposure.
  • Secured dismissals or favorable settlements in approximately 350 cases from federal multi-district litigation for asbestos (MDL 875), all remanded simultaneously for trial.
  • Obtained favorable language regarding scope of a railroad’s duty to non-employees from the Alabama Supreme Court. 23 So. 3d 625, 635 (Ala. 2009) (Murdock, J., concurring).
  • Defended before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals a jury verdict in favor of a railroad in a living employee’s mesothelioma lawsuit.
  • Served as a member of the defense team that obtained a summary reversal by the U.S. Supreme Court of adverse opinion of Tennessee Court of Appeals in a railroad’s appeal of a jury verdict in an employee lawsuit alleging injuries due to workplace exposure to chemical solvents and asbestos. CSX Transp. v. Hensley, 556 U.S. 838 (2009).
  • Moved for a new trial following multimillion-dollar adverse jury verdict in deceased former employee’s lawsuit alleging lung cancer caused by occupational exposure to radiation, diesel exhaust fumes, and asbestos; during retrial, successfully moved to exclude expert opinion testimony of estate’s radiation physicist, toxicologist, industrial hygienist, and treating physician, and thereafter obtained summary judgment; rev’d on appeal by 467 S.W.3d 413 (2015).
