Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has officially announced the appointment of HunterMaclean partner Timothy R. Walmsley as a Superior Court Judge within the Eastern Judicial Circuit.
Walmsley, 42, is an attorney at HunterMaclean with extensive experience in litigation and contract disputes. He also serves as a part-time judge in the Magistrate Court of Chatham County.
“This Superior Court judicial appointment is a true honor,” said Walmsley. “I’m delighted to join such an accomplished group of judges and look forward to serving our community.”
Walmsley was selected from a list of candidates provided to the Governor by the Judicial Nomination Commission. He will begin his tenure as Superior Court Judge as soon as he is sworn in.
“All of us at HunterMaclean congratulate Tim on his judicial appointment,” said Frank S. Macgill, managing partner at HunterMaclean. “The citizens of Chatham County are fortunate to have such a fair, experienced individual serving as the newest Chatham County Superior Court Judge.”
Walmsley received his Juris Doctor degree with honors, along with a Certificate in Environmental Law, from the Tulane University School of Law in 1996. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from Allegheny College in Meadville, Penn in 1991. He is a member of the Savannah Bar Association, American Bar Association and State Bar of Georgia.
A graduate of Leadership Savannah, Walmsley has served on the board of directors for Senior Citizens, Inc., The Goodness and Mercy Foundation, Inc. and Savannah Spanish Moss, Inc. The Savannah Business Report and Journal has named him a “40 Under 40” notable business leader, and Atlanta Magazine has repeatedly recognized him as a “Rising Star” in Georgia.
Walmsley said the HunterMaclean tradition of being involved in civic service was one of the reasons he was drawn to the firm.
“Getting involved in this community, not being from here, is important,” he said. “We have to be committed to our city.”
