Mills Fleming, chair of the firm’s Health Care Practice Group, recently authored a chapter in Health Care Law Enforcement and Compliance: Leading Lawyers on Understanding Recent Trends in Health Care Enforcement, Updating Compliance Programs and Developing Client Strategies.
Fleming contributed a chapter titled “New Government Scrutiny Demands New Strategies for Health Care Clients,” which explores the impact of recent health care laws and regulations on hospitals, health care facilities and medical practitioners.
Health Care Law Enforcement and Compliance provides an authoritative perspective on the latest changes to the government’s health care policies and how they are impacting clients. Featuring partners from some of the nation’s leading law firms, the book guides the reader through current trends in health care law and numerous updates to regulations, including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), False Claims Act and Stark Law.
Fleming also recently co-authored a chapter on nonprofit reorganizations with HunterMaclean partner Frank S. Macgill and HunterMaclean counsel Shonah P. Jefferson in the latest edition of The Georgia Hospital Law Manual, published by the The Georgia Academy of Hospital Attorneys.
The past president of the Georgia Academy of Health Care Attorneys, Fleming is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. His practice concentrates on the general representation of health care systems, including specialized regulatory support to health care entities and projects involving compliance planning, health care industry restructuring, tax exempt entities and intermediate sanctions, reimbursement, fraud and abuse, managed care and health care policy. He also assists clients with compliance self-assessments and remedial actions, Stark Law compliance assessments and the development of multi-provider joint ventures.
Fleming is included in the most recent editions of The Best Lawyers In America and has been named a Super Lawyer for the past six years. He writes and speaks frequently on health care law issues and is co-editor of the Georgia Hospital Association’s Hospital Law Manual, 5th ed.
He also wrote an article on the final HIPAA privacy rules for the American Bar Association’s American Law Institute and has presented on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act at the Georgia Academy of Health Care Attorneys’ annual meeting.
