Michael Barnes is an associate in HunterMaclean’s corporate practice group.
Michael has experience advising clients on a broad array of corporate and business legal matters, including capitalization and financing, selection and formation of business entities, debt and equity financing arrangements, private securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and reorganizations, venture capital and private equity transactions, and joint ventures and strategic alliances.
Michael also has experience advising transportation and logistics clients, including shippers, carriers, brokers, freight forwarders, warehouses, and other third-party logistics providers in transactional, dispute resolution, regulatory and compliance matters. He has also provided strategic advice and counsel on day-to-day and long-term issues and corporate planning in areas such as transportation contracts, logistics agreements, equipment leases, independent contractor agreements, shipping documents and rate tariffs, amongst others.
Before pursuing a legal career, Michael served six years as a squad leader in the U.S. Army Infantry, including two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded multiple commendation medals for valor and received the Combat Infantry Badge for his service. Michael went on to earn his B.A. in History from Arkansas State University in 2013 and his J.D. from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law in 2016.
Michael lives in Bluffton, South Carolina, with his wife and rescue dog. He enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, watching baseball and playing rugby. He is a board member of the Hilton Head Island Gators Rugby Club.
